XMAS Nugget 13 – Start-up Applications

When you login to your pc do you spend the first few minutes clicking on the same applications to open?
Why not set your computer to do this for you when you login!

The idea is to add the shortcut of your favourite software to the Startup Folder. Press Windows+R to get the Run dialog and enter the following and press Enter.

Windows 7 or Vista
C:\Users\yourcomputername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Replace yourcomputername with the name of your computer. You can also manually browse to this folder location using Windows Explorer.

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\username\StartMenu\Programs\Startup

Replace username with your login name. You can also manually browse to this folder location using Windows Explorer.

Now, copy the shortcut of your applications and paste them to this folder. The easiest way to add shortcut to this folder is by dragging the icon of an application to this folder while holding the Alt key. Once you have added the shortcuts, you are done. Now every time you open up your computer, the respective applications automatically start at your start-up whose shortcuts are added to this folder.

Do not add too many programs to the folder or it may cause your system to slow down at start-up. All in all, this can be very handy to get your favourite software running automatically after your computer boots up.
